I have been messing with some of the models trying to make a simple animation test, mainly to see how the scene layout process would be done and have come across a problem again. The scale of objects. I know some of them can be changed as we need to but what if we come across a situation that requires a lot of objects in the scene to be there?
I guess take for instance - our spider. She is HUGE compared to the environment, I am talking massive size for the rest of the objects in any given scene. So just to get some idea of how to setup a scene for animation, for my own knowledge, I appended the spider group of the recent spider build by Cedric, appended the Concrete column and support, then the mesh spider web in R+D. I had to scale the concrete column and support object to 10 times the size and it was still too small compared to spider. I think if we scale the spider, the armature and the controllers will act funny (I have not tested that out though, just a theory).
So I was wondering best course of action there. I am sure if needed for certain shots some of these models would be scaled up no problem, just like I did there only I just sort of left it and didn't see how 20 times larger would look. I think I am looking at it from the spider perspective… maybe I am wrong??? I don't know, it is late so my brain is a bit laggy (hehe).
Hi,
You can control the scale without problem, select the armature object, and simply scale it.
I've tried, it works.
Still having issues with the scale of the spider. One is that the rig itself does not scale with it - the other is the hair. Both get out of wack when trying to scale with the environment….
For example with the recent lighting blend that I had been working on this week for siggraph I am trying to just add the spider in and scale it down. It's just not working right at all.
I have tried this several times and when scaling the armature, the spider scales fine as well as the bones… the rig though just makes the movement all messed up and again the hairs alone give issues, trying to edit those values as well and even at 0.001 the hairs don't change much.
Once Siggraph has started and I am not running around with my head cut off trying to get things to work right I have to sit down and figure out solutions to this, while scaling does in fact work itself it's the other factors afterwards that affect the spider.
Do you scale the armature in object mode ?
Works well for me, can you send me the blend file ?
